On December 2, 2015, Israeli military and police forces arrived at Shu’fat Refugee Camp in East Jerusalem, and detonated the family home of the assailant in the ramming attack at Shimon Ha-Tsadik light-rail station in Jerusalem on November 5, 2015. The demolition order was already
approved by the High Court of Justice (HCJ) on
December 31, 2014, but was not carried out for nearly a year. In a
notice to the HCJ in proceedings over other punitive demolition orders, the state claimed that said order's implementation was delayed due to “operational reasons”.
The apartment, located on the top floor of a three-floor building, was the home of the assailant’s wife and five children, who have now been left homeless following the demolition.
Despite the
state’s undertaking that, “At the time of the demolition, the Respondent will take every precaution to minimize the chance of harm to the apartments near the terrorist’s apartment”, damage in various degrees was caused to three additional apartments in the same building as a result of the blast.
