Attorney Peleg-Sryck embarked on the study of law at an age where others retire to a sedate life. Nonetheless, she already has over 20 years of extensive experience in the area. She was among the first few who dared to represent Palestinians, security suspects included, in the military courts, at a time when most Jewish-Israeli attorneys did not.
Since 1995, she has been working as an attorney for HaMoked. During that time, she has represented some 750 detainees in hundreds of legal proceedings and dozens of High Court petitions. Peleg-Sryck's 20 years of connections and involvement in the field are invaluable, and she attaches great importance to transferring the knowledge she has amassed to others in the field, especially her colleagues at HaMoked. She has collaborated with dozens staff members at HaMoked, and set high standards of work, demanding rigorous precision, deep understanding, and dedicated commitment.
The first and foremost concern of Peleg-Sryck is the individual. This led her to tirelessly work on behalf of administrative detainees. Through the years, she has also represented detainees in the al-Khiam prison in Lebanon, detainees undergoing interrogations by the Israel Security Agency, detainees of the Bil’in struggle, prisoners facing parole boards, minors in detention, and many more. Relentlessly she battles for the conditions of their detention, appears at their side in military court proceedings, and submits dozens of petitions to the High Court of Justice on their behalf.
The Emil Grunzweig Human Rights Award has been given annually by ACRI since 1981 to individuals and organizations for unique and outstanding contribution to the advancement of human rights in Israel. In 1991, the award was given to Dr. Lotte Salzberger, the late founder of HaMoked.
