Procedure for Comments by [Security] Officials regarding Applications for Family Unification

Interior Ministry procedure that requires involving security officials and obtaining their recommendation before approving a request for family unification, both during the handling of the first request, and then each year that the graduated procedure continues. If the security officials indicate that approval of the request would create a security threat, the request is rejected, and the Interior Ministry so informs the applicant, and explains the reason for the rejection. If the security officials do not give the reason for their decision, the said fact is mentioned in the response to the applicant. Rejection of requests for reasons related to the applicant, and not the spouse, is allowed in extraordinary cases, such as where he has been in prison for a long time or a long prison stay is expected.
